Filipendula ulmaria is know for its pain relieving abilities. Together with white willow it was the plant from which salicylic acid was isolated in the 1800’s prevailing the emergence of aspirin.
Due to these medicinal properties meadowsweet is said to work well as a herbal bath, relaxing and relieving pain. I prepared this foot bath for my sister with a broken ankle, soaking lots and lots of meadowsweet flowers and leaves in hot water together with a few table spoons of baking soda.
What can I say – she did not complain!
